Manifesto for a post-materialist science

A group of academics campaigning for more open science has recently published a “Manifesto for a Post-Materialist Science”.

This is a timely initiative.

Mainstream science has deviated towards blind dogma and total subservience to corporate interests. But a growing number of people are becoming aware of this.

The core of the dogma is materialism: the belief that what we see is all there is.

An entire chapter of my book The Subtle Dance is devoted to opening up ideas about science and spelling out the main assumptions underlying conventional science.

It is worth remembering that science is nothing more than a series of accepted theories and models.

Even mainstream scientists recognise that many of these theories and models are logically inconsistent with one another.

Furthermore theories, models and the experimentation protocols supporting them only involve a very limited number of factors. Whereas every lucid observation of existence suggests that “reality” must involve an infinity of factors with unlimited interactions.

In other words, science is deliberately tailored to fit into the narrow limitations of the human intellect which functions in a simplistic step by step linear mode, unable as it is to deal with the astounding subtlety of “reality”.

It makes therefore no sense at all to regard science as even nearing absolute “truth”.

Science – conventional or fringe- is just a series of imperfect tools of limited scope which should be used with prudence and humility for specific purposes.

Is this the way science is presented by the Establishment?

Of course not. Science is on a pedestal. Its procedures are the main rituals of the materialist religion. Like all dogmatic religions it serves the interests and obsession of power and control of a small “elite”.

But a wave of increased consciousness and genuine desire of honesty is clearly palpable in society these days, in spite of all the disinformation, brainwashing and propaganda.

The recently published Manifesto is welcome in that context.

Fear not. Trust your intuition.

Love,

Leo
